Humanitarian emergencies place lives, livelihoods, and communities under extraordinary pressure.
The Of Joseph PB&T Foundation's humanitarian commitment centers on alleviating suffering, supporting recovery, and strengthening the capacity of communities to withstand future crises.
Its approach emphasizes cooperation with experienced humanitarian organizations, trusted local institutions, and qualified partners capable of responding effectively to urgent human needs.
Purpose & Commitment
The Foundation recognizes the importance of dignity, accountability, local knowledge, and responsible resource deployment in humanitarian action.
Alleviating suffering begins with attention to the needs and circumstances of affected people. Emergency assistance should protect human dignity while supporting the restoration of essential community capabilities and the conditions for everyday life.
Recovery extends beyond the initial emergency. The Foundation's interests include cooperation that helps communities restore essential services and livelihoods, as well as preparedness and resilience that may reduce vulnerability to future crises.
Trusted institutions and clear responsibilities are central to this approach. Potential support is considered in relation to demonstrated capability, appropriate safeguards, local knowledge, and the priorities of the populations concerned.
Areas of Engagement
RESPOND — Humanitarian Assistance
Support qualified organizations delivering essential assistance during emergencies, including food, potable water, hygiene materials, basic supplies, and other identified needs.
The nature of assistance should follow an informed assessment of urgent needs and the capabilities of organizations working with affected communities. Responsible resource deployment requires appropriate safeguards, coordination, and accountability.
RECOVER — Community Restoration
Contribute to initiatives helping affected communities restore essential services, livelihoods, social participation, and everyday life.
Recovery priorities are shaped by local circumstances and the people concerned. Prospective cooperation may support clearly defined restoration efforts through organizations with the experience and community relationships needed to undertake them responsibly.
STRENGTHEN — Preparedness & Resilience
Support efforts that improve community preparedness, reduce vulnerability, and strengthen the capacity to withstand and recover from future emergencies.
Preparedness and resilience depend on local knowledge and sustained institutional capabilities. Potential engagements are considered according to identified needs, appropriate responsibilities, and the capacity of qualified organizations to support communities over time.
Institutional Cooperation
The Foundation seeks cooperation with organizations demonstrating operational capability, appropriate safeguards, financial accountability, local knowledge, and trusted relationships with affected populations.
The Foundation's potential roles may include financial assistance, resource mobilization, institutional coordination, and support for clearly defined recovery or resilience initiatives.
Implementation remains with appropriately qualified partners according to agreed responsibilities. Philanthropic support and stewardship do not substitute for the professional judgment, operational duties, and accountability of the organizations carrying out the work.
